Angelica sinensis, commonly known as dong quai (當歸), or female ginseng, is an herb grown on high altitude mountains in China, Japan, and Korea. It is often used in traditional Chinese medicine to nourish the blood and is particularly valued for its effectiveness in treating menstrual cramps and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. Dong quai has also been found to help with acute coronary syndrome and renal insufficiency due to its blood nourishing properties. It is popular during the winter season for its ability to bolster qi during cold weather.
